Gander Travel Guide
Welcome to Gander!
The town of Gander, located in central Newfoundland on the Trans Canada Highway, became an integral part of Canadian history when the Royal Air Force Ferry command took up residence as the Second World War approached. Today, aviation remains significant as the Gander International Airport is a hub of daily flight activity. Commemorating the history of flight and aviation in Gander, the Festival of Flight held annually in August, offers a flurry of activities including a derby race, airplane demonstration, a parade and fireworks. Also worth a tour is the North Atlantic Aviation Museum, offering a history of aviation in Newfoundland and featuring a display of antique aircraft, including fighter and bomber planes In addition to the area's history, Gander is a picturesque town surrounded by walking trails and parks, as well as views of the Gander River, known as the ideal location for salmon fishing.
